Midtown Hotel To Host Cat Fashion Show

The fashion show will help raise money fort the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Ditch human fashion week this year and hit the real "catwalk." On Thursday, August 3, the Algonquin Hotel will host a cat fashion show to raise money for New York City animals in need.

The Algonquin Hotel, located on West 44th street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, has hired a "certified animal fashion designer" to design outfits worn by the eight different cats who will be strutting their stuff during the show.

The fashion show will serve both as a fundraiser for the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals and a homage to one of the Algonquins famous residents — Melinda III. Melinda is, of course, the hotel's current "Algonquin Cat," a post that has been occupied by 10 felines before it since the 1920s.

Legend has it that a stray cat wandered into the hotel one day and was taken in and given the name "Hamlet," to honor hotel resident and legendary actor John Barrymore — who starred in the Shakespeare play. Since then, seven Hamlets and three Matildas have held the position of "Algonquin Cat."

Tickets to the cat fashion show are on sale and include:
