Penn Station 'Power Problem' Disrupts Evening Commute
The Long Island Rail Road announced delays and cancellations during the evening rush hour.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A "power problem" at Penn Station has resulted in train delays and cancellations for Thursday night's evening rush hour, transportation officials announced.
The Long Island Rail Road said that customers should expect delays at Penn Station and advised commuters on the Hempstead, Long Beach, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead lines to take the subway to Atlantic Terminal and catch a train home from the Brooklyn station. Westbound service between Jamaica and Penn Station has been suspended, LIRR officials said on social media.

New Jersey Transit service in and out of Penn Station will be delayed up to 30 minutes due to a "speed restriction" in place while Amtrak works to restore power to the tracks.

"Amtrak crews are working to address a power system issue affecting several station tracks," Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert told Patch in a statement.

Amtrak did not provide information about what caused the power problem or when it might be fixed.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency Tuesday for the MTA.
