Penn Station Cancels Rush Hour LIRR Trains, MTA Says

Long Island Railroad commuters are being told to expect cancelations due to a "third rail problem."

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Some Long Island Railroad trains out of Penn Station will be canceled for the Thursday evening rush hour due to "third rail problems" at the station, the MTA announced.

Amtrak — the company which owns and operates Penn Station — is on scene trying to resolve the issue, according to the MTA.

"Residual LIRR delays and cancellations are expected because trains are out of proper position because of the earlier track restrictions at Penn Station," an MTA spokesman told Patch. "LIRR is working to minimize the delays and cancelations."
