Shred All Reminders of the Nightmare That Was 2016 in Times Square Wednesday

Good Riddance Day — held Wednesday, Dec. 28 — will feature a "mobile shredding truck" parked in Times Square.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Want to forget 2016 ever happened? The Times Square Alliance and Information Security company Shred-It will be helping people destroy all evidence of the anxiety-ridden, tragedy-filled year Wednesday, Dec. 28 — also known as "Good Riddance Day."

The main attraction of "Good Riddance Day" will be the "mobile shredding truck" parked in Times Square between noon and 1 p.m., according to the Times Square Alliance. Anyone who wants to destroy painful memories of 2016 is invited to bring an item to the shredding truck and have it disposed for free.

The destruction is secure and the resulting debris will eventually be recycled, according to Shred-It's website.

Times Square Alliance, which is organizing the event, claims "Good Riddance Day" was inspired by a Latin American tradition.

"Good Riddance Day is inspired by a Latin American tradition in which New Year’s revelers stuffed dolls with objects representing bad memories before setting them on fire," the Times Square Alliance website claims.
