Target To Open First Midtown Store In Herald Square
The "small format" 43,000-square-foot store has taken form in Herald Square and is set to open Friday, Oct. 20.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Retail giant Target will open one of its first "small format" stores in New York City on Friday, Oct. 20 in Herald Square. The new 43,000-square-foot store will be located on West 34th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue.

Workers were seen putting finishing touches on the new store's signature red facade Wednesday morning in preparation for Friday morning's grand opening event. The store will also hold a closed ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday night, according to a press release.

Target's first Midtown Manhattan store will be two stories and will offer products "tailored to meet the needs of local guests," according to a press release. The "small-format" store concept is being pushed by Target as it expands from the suburbs into dense urban neighborhoods, according to the release.

The new store will also offer an order pickup service that allows shoppers to purchase products online and pick them up at the store, according to the press release. The new Herald Square store is part of Target's push to invest in New York City and open 70 stores within the city.
Target previously announced that they would be hiring 200 workers at the new Herald Square store.
