HARLEM, NY — A reported shooting threat prompted The City University of New York's City College to shut down its Harlem campus Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Authorities responded to "threats of a shooting" at the campus at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, an NYPD spokesperson told Patch. Officers conducted a sweep of the campus, but found no suspects. No injuries were reported.

School officials closed the campus by 1 p.m. due to the serious nature of the threat, a college spokesperson added. The investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Essential service employees will be contacted regarding their work schedule, the college added.

The campus is scheduled to reopen Wednesday as planned, though no classes are in session.

City College of New York officials declined to comment further, citing an active investigation.

"...due to an unverified, but serious threat to campus safety, City College closed early today and all staff, faculty, students and vendors on site were asked to depart campus by 1pm and College buildings were closed," said officials.
