Internet Awareness at Miller Place
Students and Parents Learn Internet Safety from Veteran Cop

Students and their families at Miller Place High School and North Country Road Middle School recently participated photo resizerin an internet awareness assembly. Officer Thomas Grimes, a United States Air Force Veteran and retired New York City Police Department detective lead the students in a discussion of the many positive opportunities provided by the internet, but the importance of using it responsibly. During this assembly Officer Thomas Grimes shared personal stories, news accounts that demonstrated the consequences of unsafe internet practices and a video message from President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Students had the chance to learn about internet safety and were able to ask Officer Grimes any questions they had concerning threats, cyberbullying, state and federal laws and more.
Miller Place School District parents and guardians also attended an internet safety assembly to learn about the importance of stressing internet safety, understanding potential life threatening scenarios, social networking and protecting their child from innocent behaviors that predators utilize to plan the perfect ambush.
