RIVERHEAD, NY – On Tuesday, March 3rd, the Suffolk County Legislature approved a resolution to establish the week of April 18 through April 26, 2020 as Suffolk County Parks Appreciation Week. Parks Appreciation Week will celebrate the natural beauty of county beaches, parks, camp sites, golf courses, hiking trails and recreational areas, and encourage residents to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle.
“Suffolk County’s parks compliment Long Island’s $5.5B tourism industry, and the county will continue to invest in open space to not only protect our groundwater but to support the vitality of our local economy. This initiative was created to encourage residents to discover our parks and enjoy the outdoors,” said Legislator Anker. “From pristine woodlands to our beautiful beaches, I encourage our residents to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to see what Suffolk County’s parks have to offer.”
Suffolk County owns and maintains thousands of acres of parkland which provide both active and passive recreation opportunities to county residents and visitors. In addition, the Suffolk County Department of Parks Division of Historic Services manages over 200 historic structures containing an array of buildings, gardens, and cultural and historical sites.
