Legislator Anker joined Gold Star families, local elected officials and community members at the Gold Star Families Recognition Ceremony.

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY – On September 27th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Gold Star families, local veteran's organizations, Middle Island Fire Department, Longwood School Board members, Lion's club members, community members and local elected officials at the Gold Star Families Recognition Ceremony at Bartlett Pond Park hosted by the Middle Island Civic Association and the Longwood Alliance.
“Thank you to the Longwood Alliance and the Middle Island Civic Association for continuing to organize this important event,” said Legislator Anker. “This event allows us to recognize and show our gratitude to those who lost their lives while serving, and to honor their family members.”
Beginning in 1936, Gold Star Mother’s Day has been observed in the United States on the last Sunday in September. The United States currently recognizes the day as “Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day” to recognize the sacrifice that all Gold Star Family members make when a loved one dies in service to the nation. Every year, the Longwood Alliance and the Middle Island Civic Association organizes the Gold Star Families Day for community members to come together to commemorate those who lost their lives while serving and to honor their family members.
