Local College Athletes Make Their Mark

Local products shine in recent competitions.

Many talented young athletes from the Miller Place-Rocky Point area are making some waves at their respective colleges. Here's a roundup of some local athletes making headlines.

Tommy Palasek, of Rocky Point, is the star attackmen on the Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team and most recently, netted four goals in front of a crowd of a record crowd of 25,934 at Metlife Stadium. His team (4-4) lost to Duke (9-3), 12-10 Sunday. On the season, Palasek leads the team with 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists.

At C.W Post, junior attack Abbie Ross, of Miller Place, scored a season-high six goals to lead the third-ranked C.W. Post women's lacrosse to a 21-5 victory over East Coast Conference opponent Seton Hill March 31.

Caitlin Maynes, of Miller Place, broke a Mount Saint Mary College record with her 31st win last Friday. In the game March 23 against Newburgh, she pitched a 1-0 shutout vs. Saint Joseph's College. It was her second shutout of the week and third of the year, one of which was a no-hitter. After that game, she had a 0.13 ERA on the season. It's not the first school record Maynes has reached, and she has a shot at the career strikeout record this year.
