Update Local Lax Roundup: Tracking RP, MP Alumni in Tourney

Updates on Rocky Point and Miller Place alumni playing in the NCAA Lacrosse Championships.

Miller Place and Rocky Point have 11 alumni playing in the 2011 NCAA Lacrosse Championships, and Patch has updates on all their personal and team performances.

Division I Men's

Tommy Palasek (Rocky Point), Syracuse

Playing for No.1 Syracuse, Palasek had four assists and a goal in his team's 10-4 first round victory over Siena. During the regular season, the junior had 16 goals and 14 assists in 15 games playing for the No.1 ranked team in the country. Syracuse plays unseeded Maryland Sunday.

Bill Kelly (Rocky Point), Siena

Kelly, a senior backup goalie, appeared in seven games for the Saints. Siena lost to his former teammate Palasek and Syracuse in the first round, 10-4.

Division III Men's

Ryan Mentnech (Rocky Point), Endicott

Mentnech, a freshman, played in nine games this season, picking up two ground balls. Endicott won its first round game before losing to Salisbury, 12-8.

Division I Women's

Kara Mupo (Rocky Point), Northwestern


No.2 Northwestern defeated Boston College, 11-8 in its first round matchup Saturday, May 14. Mupo, a freshman, tallied two points with a goal and an assist. Her goal made it 10-6 in the second half.

RPHS alum and MP resident Brianne LoManto, a junior, made seven saves and allowed eight goals while picking up two ground balls in the game. Lomanto has started all 20 games for the Wildcats and has a goals against average of 8.4 and a .444 save percentage. Northwestern will play Albany on Saturday at 8 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup.

Jackie Lyons (Rocky Point), UMass

In her teams' 14-7 loss to Loyola Saturday, Senior Jackie Lyons scored a goal in the first half, which stopped a four-goal streak by the Greyhounds and made it 5-2. Lyons led Umass in points in 2011 with 73, scoring 41 goals and dishing out a team-leading 32 assists in her senior season. She had three game-winning goals in their 17-3 season.

Division II Women's

Chelsea Bruno (Rocky Point), Dowling

Dowling lost its first round game to LeMoyne 18-9. Junior defender Bruno played in the game and picked up one foul. She appeared in eight games total during the season.

Adelphi Head Coach Joe Spallina (Rocky Point)

Emily Mercier (Rocky Point), Adelphi

Alison Staudt (Rocky Point), Adelphi

Head coach Joe Spallina, a Rocky Point resident, took over Adelphi four years ago and has brought them to back-to-back National Championships and is in search of a third in 2011. No.1 Adelphi plays No.2 LeMoyne on Saturday in a rematch of the Northeast-10 Championship Game from May 8, which Adelphi won 17-11. Mercier and Staudt last saw time in the opening round of the NE-10 championships, a 24-10 win over Merrimack.

Division III Women's

Taylor Reh (Miller Place), Cortland

Janine Glass (Miller Place), Cortland

Cortland has won three games to advance to the semifinals of the Division III bracket where they will play Gettysburg on Saturday. Miller Place’s Reh, a freshman, scored a goal each in her team’s second round victory over Tufts and first round victory over Keene State.
