Miller Place Students Journey Back in Time

Second Grade Students Learn About 19th Century America at Old Bethpage Village Restoration

Second grade students at Miller Place School District’s Andrew Muller Primary School recently experienced 19th century America as they walked through a recreated village—visiting a historic farm, schoolhouse, general store and homes. During the experience, students learned about agricultural skills, crafts and domestic activities of the era. Skilled craftsmen, women and costumed guides also helped demonstrate the trades of the time period. The field trip served as a supplement to the second grade social studies curriculum, which includes a deep focus on learning about different communities.
