Mixing Kindness With Academic Excellence at Miller Place

The Miller Place School District recently recognized ten students from Miller Place High School for random acts of kindness and stellar educational achievement. The students received either their Outstanding Acts of Kindness (OAK) award or Outstanding Academic Recognition (OAR) award at a breakfast in the presence of friends and family.

Recipients of the OAK award have been “caught” in the act of being great. The students display selfless behavior and helped someone in need with no expectation of material return. They demonstrate the sense of spirit the District aims to achieve throughout its school community and are role models for others. This year’s awardees include students Serena Mangino, Hallie Benson, Emily Hampson, Emily Lambert, Wayne Wesemann and Nicole Volovar.

To receive the OAR award, students must distinguish themselves as academic inspirations and have efficiently risen to the educational challenges presented to them. The students either met long-term goals or are students who have exhibited commendable improvement. Recipients include Jake MacMonigle, Ricky Abreu, Emily Bruno, Wayne Wesemann and Anthony Santangelo.

Miller Place High School student Wayne Wesemann received both awards for understanding the meaning of hard work.
