Panthers Notebook: Boys Lax Wins Two, Baseball Falls to Rocky Point
The varsity boys lacrosse team improved to 4-0 in league play.
Baseball
In a series that extended to Friday due to rain, the Panthers (1-5) were able to win Game 3 Friday but ultimately fell in the series against crosstown rival Rocky Point (5-1) two games to one.

In Game 1 on Monday, the Panthers came back from a three-run deficit to take a lead in the sixth, only to fall 7-6.
Miller Place was trailing 4-1 before they flipped the switch and hit two two-run home runs, one by Nick Acevedo and Shane Paparelli to take a 5-4 lead. The Eagles ended up winning on a sacrifice fly by Dan Alkon in the top of the seventh. Acevedo took the loss on the mound for the Panthers, while Eagles' pitcher Joe DeFrank earned the win.

Game 2
The Eagles sealed the series win Thursday with a 10-2 win over the Panthers in quick fashion.
Eagles pitcher Brine Gill allowed just three hits while striking out four to earn the win. Cody McPartland went yard for the Panthers
Game 3
The Panthers were able to avoid a sweep as they held on to a 5-4 victory.
McPartland earned his first varsity win as the Panthers got out to a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning thanks in part to a Matt Hinchy RBI double. The Eagles cut it to one run, but Hinchy's big game (3-4, 3 RBIs) was enough of a cushion for the win.
Boys Lacrosse
The varsity boys lacrosse team continued its winning ways with two wins to improve to 4-0 in League II play.
On Monday, April 11, James Read led the Panthers with six goals in a 13-6 win over Bellport (0-5). Jeff Reh added two goals and four assists in the victory.
On Friday, April 15, the Panthers extended their win streak to three games with a 14-7 victory over Babylon (1-4).
Matt Liantonio made 15 saves in net and Ryan Callahan had four goals for Miller Place. Read and Steven Jackolski also added three goals apiece in the win.

Girls Lacrosse
It was a rough week for the girls squad as they dropped two games to fall to 2-4 in League II play.
On Wednesday, April 13, their defense failed them in a 16-6 loss to Eastport-South Manor (4-2). Eight different players scored for ESM in the game while Kristen Ierna and Carissa Citro led the Panthers with two goals each.

Devin Kelly had three goals and Ierna and Maggie Gersbeck added two each in the loss.

The Panthers dropped to 5-3 with one win and two losses on the week.
Sara Battey's solo home run proved to be enough as Jackie Gallagher pitched a three-hit complete game shutout in a 1-0 victory over Sayville (5-2) Monday.
On Thursday, Tori Carlo took the loss in an 8-1 loss to Hauppauge and again in a 6-1 loss to Kings Park Friday. Kings Park's Lindsay Taylor overpowered the Panthers with 13 strikeouts.
Badminton
It was a mixed week for Miller Place badminton as the boys won both their games against Whitman and Commack, while the girls lost two.
The boys improved to 5-1 in League 1 play with a 5-4 win over Whitman (4-2) Tuesday and a 6-3 win over Commack (1-5) Thursday. Jesse Dietrichson and Jawad Ahsan earned singles victories for the Panthers during the week.
The girls fell to 3-3 overall with a 7-2 loss to Whitman (5-0) Tuesday and a 6-3 loss to Commack (4-2) Thursday.
Boys Tennis
The Panthers (2-3) fell 7-0 to Ward Melville (5-1) Thursday before recovering with a 6-1 win over Stony Brook (0-6) Friday.
Anders Larson won first singles and Nathaniel D'Agati and Anthony Borrelli won second doubles to lead the Panthers Friday against a winless Stony Brook team.
Girls Track and Field
The Panthers (4-0) remained undefeated with a 90-60 victory over Islip Monday. Katie Dubois won the triple jump, Hanah Greenfield won the long jump and Emma Larson took first place in the shot put and discus to lead Miller Place.
