Panthers Winter Sports Season Recap
Girls basketball make playoffs, wrestlers place in counties.
The 2010-'11 Miller Place varsity sports winter season is officially complete. The Panthers didn't win any championships but it was an exiciting winter season nonetheless.

The varsity girls basketball team had an up and down regular season but managed to win just enough league games to earn a No.5 seed in the Class A playoffs. The Panthers clinched a spot in the playoffs with a 50-22 win over Sayville on Feb. 8, but to No.4 Shoreham-Wading River, 55-38, on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Senior center had an impressive season for the Panthers. She recorded nine double-doubles, placed sixth on Long Island in scoring with 19.2 points per game and ninth in Suffolk County in rebound with 7.1 per game. Brea Greene finished 16th in Suffolk County with 30 three-pointers.

The Panthers came one win shy of clinching a playoff spot for the second straight year, losing two games to crosstown rival Rocky Point, whose only two league wins were against the Panthers. Miller Place needed to win its final two games in order to make the playoffs, but after defeating Sayville 53-40, they, losing 70-50 on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Danny Finta finished in the top 25 in Suffolk County with 5.2 rebounds per game. Nick Parella was 12th in the County with 2.5 assists per game. Jack Hepburn, Steve Jackolski and Kevin Leyden also played well all season as starters for the Panthers.
The varsity wrestling squad struggled this season winning just two meets overall. They did, however, get some solid individual performances with two fifth place wrestlers in the .
The Panthers finished with a team score of 26 in the Division I county finals. John Steiger placed fifth at 125 pounds after defeating John Glenn's Sam Rachman 3-2 and Ryan Kelly also placed fifth by pinning Sachem North's Mike McCarthy at 215 pounds.
