Report: Defending Mass. Open Champion Finishes No. 42

According to the Massachusetts Golf Association, Miller Place's James Hazen, who won the 2010 Mass. Open Championship, was unable to retain the title.

Hazen, who shot a 204 to finish -6 in 2010, shot a 219 to finish +9 in this year's tournament. Hazen had the opportunity to become just the second golfer in the last 25 years to repeat as champion, but a year after shooting a hgih round of 69, Hazen shot a low-round 70 and finished with a 77 on the final day.

Kyle Gallo of Kensington, Conn. grabbed the title, finishing -5 with an overall score of 205. Connecticut took the top two spots as Michael Ballo from Stamford finished with a 206.
