Rocking Chairs Revue Review Plays a New Kind of Swing

A unique 2-person band from Eastern Long Island puts a new face on 1940s and 50s pop music.

Music, comedy and fascinating rhythm come together in a one-of-kind 2-person band called the Rocking Chairs Rhythm Revue. Inspired by the pioneers of rock ‘n’ roll, the Rocking Chairs combines the brassy riffs of swing bands, the energetic dance rhythms of jump blues, and the comedic flair of vaudeville theater in arrangements you won’t hear anywhere else. And while most neo big bands rely on trumpets, trombones and saxophones, the Rocking Chairs brings the music to life with a more ethereal palette of guitars, cello, mandolin, an occasional keyboard and bass, and an assortment of novelty instruments. The two chairs are powered by Audrey Hepcat and Midnight Earl, who use strictly eco-friendly fuels. As one listener commented: “The Rhythm Revue is an ice cream sundae for my ears.” Whatever your taste, the Rocking Chairs Rhythm Revue will leave you wishing for a second helping.
