Suffolk Legislature Approves Land Purchase for Open Space
Suffolk County is set to close on the acquisition of a parcel of land (in yellow) for open space preservation.

HAUPPAUGE, NY – On Tuesday, December 17th, the Suffolk County Legislature passed Introductory Resolution No. 2070-2019, which authorizes the County Division of Real Property to acquire a parcel of land off of Broome Street in Middle Island for open space acquisition. Legislator Anker moved forward the acquisition process in an effort to preserve this environmentally sensitive property. The preservations efforts are supported by local community members, environmental groups, and the Middle Island Civic Association.
“I am proud that the Suffolk County Legislature has taken a strong lead in acquiring and protective environmentally sensitive properties to protect our natural ecosystems and our vulnerable groundwater aquifer,” said Legislator Anker.
The Environmental Trust Review Board conducted an appraisal process to determine the market value of the property and an offer was made and accepted by the property owner. The passage of IR No. 2070-2019 will allow Suffolk County to officially close on the sale of the property.
