Suffolk Legislature Approves Land Purchase for Open Space

The Legislature voted to acquire a 9.9 acre wooded parcel of land near Pine Lake in Middle Island for open space preservation.

RIVERHEAD, NY – On Tuesday, March 3rd, the Suffolk County Legislature passed a resolution authorizing the County Division of Real Property to acquire a 9.9 acre wooded parcel of land near Pine Lake in Middle Island for open space acquisition. Legislator Anker moved forward the acquisition process in an effort to preserve this environmentally sensitive property. The property, located on Church Lane in Middle Island, was slated to be developed. It is within the Compatible Growth Area for the Pine Barrens and is within the watershed area for Pine Lake. Preserving this property helps to protect our groundwater, local water bodies, and the character of the community.

“I am proud that the Suffolk County Legislature has taken a strong lead to acquire environmentally sensitive properties to protect our natural ecosystems and our vulnerable groundwater aquifer,” said Legislator Anker.
