
A 49-year-old Sound Beach woman was airlifted to the hospital following a sledding accident Saturday evening, police said.
According to police, the woman was using a foam sled to slide down Riverhead Road in Sound Beach when the sled hit a flat area and bounced the woman onto the sand along the Long Island Sound shortly before 7 p.m. A person who was with the woman called 911.
The woman, who had pain on her left shoulder and the left side of her face, was transported by Rocky Point Rescue to a waiting Suffolk County Police helicopter. She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police did not identify the woman.
