Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- A Bay Shore man was arrested and charged with the deadly shooting of a 10-year Northwell Health employee in the garage of the building where she worked at 1999 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park. According to Nassau County police, Quay-Sean Renard Hines, 30, was reportedly an abusive ex-boyfriend of 33-year-old Amelia Laguerre of Queens, whom he stalked and killed. (New York Post)
- A man was arrested for allegedly smashing a window at Equilibriums Firearms at 283 Willis Ave. in Mineola and stealing an antique gun, according to Nassau County police. An officer on patrol saw the broken window at 1 a.m. Sunday morning, and 40 minutes later he found Frantzcy Dorelien of Brooklyn in front of 810 Willis Ave. carrying an antique gun and arrested him. The damage to the store was estimated to be $4,800. (WABC-TV)
- The Mineola Village Board has appointed a new trustee, Donna Solosky, who was sworn in on April 6 by Mineola Mayor Paul Pereira. Solosky is a lifelong Mineola resident who has worked as a chemistry teacher at Herricks High School for more than 36 years. She has also served as the recording secretary of Mineola's Corpus Christi School Board and had a seat on the Mineola Master Plan Board. (Mineola American)
