Bites Nearby: Trodos in Westbury

Mediterranean food find in Westbury.

Serving Mediterranean influenced food in a soothing and cheerful setting of white walls with blue accents and bright yellow lemons on each table, Trodos in Westbury is named after the mountain range that runs through the Island of Cyprus, where owner Ayhan Hassan was born.

Trodos – a nice way to start the meal is with Turkish pita to dip in a tangy dipping sauce of olive oil, garlic, lemon and herbs. For the main course, there’s lots of fish and a favorite is grilled whole fish such as branzino from Greece and royal dorado from the Red Sea. The fish is served with rice, sautéed vegetables and scordalia (a cold thick puree of garlic and potatoes).

The numerous kebab offerings – sirloin, mignon, lamb, chicken, shrimp – can be ordered available in combinations for those who can’t makeup their minds.

For vegetarians, choices include numerous salads, a felafel sandwich (chick pea balls in pita with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and tahina sauce, and grape leaves stuffed with herbs and rice.

Turkish coffee is a great finish to the meal: sweet (with lots of sugar), medium (some sugar) and bitter (no sugar).
