Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. CityMD Mineola at 292 Herricks Rd. reopened on Monday. The location closed just before the new year due to a staffing shortage. Three other Long Island CityMD locations that also temporarily closed in Merrick, Bay Shore and Patchogue are still closed for "staff welfare". (News12 Long Island)
  2. With an arctic blast predicted to chill our area for the next few days, Nassau County has opened three warming centers that are open around the clock for residents who need them. The warming centers are at the Mitchel Field Administration Building at 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd. in Uniondale, the Cantiague Park Administration Office at 480 W John St. in Hicksville, and the Wantagh Administration Building at 1 King Rd. in Wantagh. These centers will stay open through Wednesday. (Mineola Patch)
  3. Mineola is one of seven villages in the Town of North Hempstead that do not currently have a full budget shown on their website for residents to view. Other nearby villages who have also not made this information public include Great Neck Estates, Kensington, Saddle Rock, Williston Park, North Hills and Roslyn. While some officials pointed out that no law mandates that the budget must be posted, Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Veronica Lurvey asserted that she believes the budget should be posted to promote government transparency and show taxpayers where their money is going. Twenty-four other villages in the Town of North Hempstead have their full budgets posted on their website. (The Island Now)
