Hereditary Breast/Ovarian Cancer Syndrome Seminar

In recognition of National Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Week, Winthrop-University Hospital will hold a special seminar for BRCA Previvors and Survivors, as well as for women who have a familial risk of breast or ovarian cancer. The program, “A Family Affair: Hereditary Breast/Ovarian Cancer Syndrome,” will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 6:00 PM. 

The program will consist of a seminar and open discussion with a genetic counselor, gynecologic oncologist, and social worker. Monika Zak, MS, Genetic Counselor at Winthrop, will explain what it means to have a mutation in a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. Jeannine Villella, DO, Associate Director, Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Winthrop, will discuss the hereditary risk of ovarian cancer associated with the mutation of the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. Alisha Ellis, LMSW, MA, Winthrop Breast Health Center Social Worker, will discuss coping skills for BRCA1/2 carriers.

Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
