Artist Dread Scott will exhibit photo-based paintings and video. He has shown his work throughout the United States, in Switzerland, South Africa and Holland, and was included in the 2006 Whitney Biennial.
The paintings transform archival photographs from the Chinese Cultural Revolution. These paintings address communication and importance of ideas to changing the world and how contemporary society regards this history.
Among the videos is "Money to Burn," a documentation of a June 2010 performance done in front of the New York Stock Exchange. Starting with $250, Mr. Scott burned bills, one at a time while inviting traders and others on The Street to join him and burn their own. While exploring a taboo the performance calls attention to the money burned daily in stocks markets around the globe. The gallery is ADA compliant and is free and open to the public.
