Winthrop Heart Health Lecture for Women: Antioxidants

Antioxidants…we hear about them in the news.  But exactly what are they?  Are they as beneficial as we may think and how do they impact our heart-health?  To learn the answers to these and other questions, the community is invited to attend Winthrop-University Hospital’s Inspiring Women: The Women’s Wellness Initiative free program, “Red Wine, Dark Chocolate & Almonds,” on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.  The seminar will be held at the Winthrop Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard, at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.  It begins with registration and informational tables at 6:30 PM, followed by the lecture at 7:00.

Barbara George, EdD, RCEP, MSN, RN, Program Director, Women’s Cardiovascular Wellness & Prevention Center at Winthrop, will discuss the truths and myths regarding the relationship between antioxidants and cardiovascular disease. Attendees will learn about the potential benefits of antioxidants, some common misconceptions, and what they might do to increase their intake of antioxidant-rich, heart-healthy foods.  A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

Parking and the entrance are available in the rear of the building.  Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required.  To reserve a seat, please call (516) 663-9761.
