Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. A fire erupted early Thursday morning at a construction site next to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. Nassau County police responded to 300 Community Drive, and the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department extinguished the fire with the help of neighboring fire departments. No injuries were reported. 2. Police arrested a New Jersey man for allegedly stealing a car on Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park on Sunday. They responded to a call at 9 a.m. by a 57-year-old man who said his car was stolen after he left it unlocked and running on the shoulder of the road. After investigating, officers found the vehicle at the 7-Eleven at 400 East Jericho Turnpike in Mineola and arrested Mohamed Elgendy, 31, of Piscataway. They reported that the suspect had a glass pipe believed to contain crack cocaine. (Garden City Patch)
