Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. A postal carrier from Rockville Centre and a Sirius XM disc jockey from Queens were indicted in Mineola for their roles in a drug trafficking scheme in which kilos of fentanyl and cocaine were sent by the U.S. Postal Service from California to addresses in Hempstead. Adrianna Lewis, 31, and DJ Love Dinero, 40, who real name is Lance Holmes, met at multiple stops along Lewis' postal route to transfer the drugs, according to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. The accused duo are due back in court Aug. 18. (Mineola Patch)
  2. A rally is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola to urge officials to approve Kyra's Law, which intends to protect children from being killed or abused in child custody cases. Kyra Franchetti, age 2, was shot to death in her sleep during an unsupervised court-ordered visit with her father. Kyra's mother, Jacqueline Franchetti of Manhasset, told a Long Island court that the child's father was unstable and shouldn't be left alone with her, but to no avail. (Mineola Patch)
  3. If keeping a pet goose in your backyard sounds like a good idea, think again. New York State Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) ticketed a Nassau County woman at her home after receiving a call about a caged Canadian goose in her backyard. The woman was trying to help the goose after her friend treated it for an injury and dropped it off at her home, but New York state prohibits anyone from owning a wild animal as a pet. (NEWS10 ABC)
