Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. A hazardous weather forecast has been issued for Long Island and both your morning and evening commutes can be affected. The National Weather Service predicts that a cold front will move through our area late Thursday night into Friday, with rain changing to a wintry mix of sleet and snow. Only a small amount of snow, if any, is expected to accumulate, but freezing rain can cause ice accretion on untreated surfaces, making driving extremely dangerous. (Mineola Patch)
  2. LIRR commuters in Mineola recently told News 12 they don't feel as safe in New York City anymore but were hopeful that President Joe Biden's visit to the City this week would be a step towards changing that. "I feel over the last couple [years], since COVID-19 really started, the city has gone downhill," said Lenny Vicciardo of East Williston, who works in NYC. Six police officers have been shot so far in NYC in 2022, two of which died. (News12 The Bronx)
  3. Top-rated Adelphi University will be featured on a popular Amazon Prime show, "The College Tour," starting Feb. 8. Adelphi is the first New York school to appear on the show. Host Alex Boylan interviews 10 Adelphi students, including a future neuroscientist, a nursing trainee, an MBA candidate and others, while virtually visiting the Garden City campus.
