Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- The mask mandate for indoor businesses in New York State is being lifted, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced, and local residents rejoiced. Michael Naggar, a Mineola shopper said, "That's like a dream come true, because I want to return to the old days, when we could just worry less about a disease." However, Hochul is not yet ready to end the mask mandate for schools and will reassess the situation again the first week of March. (CBS New York)
- A New Hyde Park man was arrested yesterday for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Eric Gerwatowski, 31, allegedly opened the doors of the Upper House and incited the rioters to enter the building. He is the 7th person from Long Island to be charged. (Glen Cove Patch)
- Mineola parents of a resident student who plans to attend private school for the 2022-2023 school year and needs transportation services must submit an application to their school district of residence on or before April 1.
