Jackson Ave Principal Named New Personnel Director
Matthew Gaven will begin new position July 1.

The Mineola Board of Education fast tracked their consensus agenda last Thursday night following the as several families and young children were waiting for one specific item on the list: the appointment of principal Matthew Gaven as the new Director of Pupil Personnel Services.
“I’m very proud to bring this recommendation to you,” Superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler said. “I think Mr. Gaven has proven to be an exceptional leader in our district, he works for all children, he’s steadfast in his beliefs for all kids, there’s an unbelievable work ethic, he’s bright – and selfishly – he’s going to do a lot of my work next year so I’m very happy to have him on board.”
Gaven was appointed on a 3 year probationary period which will run from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2014. His salary is yet to be determined.

The director of pupil personnel services is responsible for monitoring special education programs, making sure the district is in compliance with all federal and state regulations, all testing of academic programs, supervises staff and oversees recruitment and development.
“I’m certainly satisfied with his credentials in respect to that position,” Trustee John McGrath said, “not to mention the fact that he’s made an outstanding administrator during the period he’s been there.”

Mr. Gaven has served as principal of the Jackson Avenue School and helped to oversee the implementation of the district’s in the fifth grade.
