Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- An 86-year-old man was hit by a car while walking in Mineola Thursday night and later died of his injuries. He was crossing 2nd Street at Roosevelt Place around 10:30 p.m., according to police, when he was struck by a Toyota sedan driven by a 60-year-old man. The driver remained at the scene, while the victim was taken to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition at first. His identity has not been released. An investigation by police is underway. (Mineola Patch)
- An East Rockaway man was arraigned in Mineola this week on charges of amassing an arsenal of ghost guns and assault rifles in his home. Thomas Saxton, 34, faces 10 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and faces a potential maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, according to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. - Nassau County police have arrested and charged a 35-year-old Hicksville man for burglarizing nine restaurants, bagel stores and delicatessens across the county in 19 days. Jonathan Bird is accused of robbing Westbury businesses The Bagel Shop at 1075 Old Country Road and Mala Madre Taqueria at 1610 Old Country Road as well as Angelo's Pizza and J&J Bagel and Deli, both on Glen Cove Road in Carle Place.
