Meadow Drive First Grade Holds Circus Party
Mineola first grade student Joseph Parrino wins Scholastic's Skippy Jon Jones circus contest.

The first grade classroom of Meadow Drive teacher Maureen Wojis was recently turned into a circus after student Joseph Parrino won Scholastic’s Skippy Jon Jones Circus Contest.
To be considered for the contest, Joseph had to create an illustration for a new “Skippy Jon Jones” circus book. As one of onlya handful of winners from across the United States, each student in his class received a set of books and a circus party to celebrate the launch of the newest “Skippy Jon Jones” book.
At the party, the first-graders were given circus outfits, including clown noses and hats. Teacher Maureen Wojis turned the party into a learning event, complete with a nonf-iction study on the circus and circus-themed math lessons. The district congratulates Joseph on his winning creative effort.
