MINEOLA, NY — The village of Mineola will receive a $4.5 million state grant as Long Island winner of the NY Forward program to invigorate its downtown.

Ahead of the award, Mineola made zoning changes to attract new businesses and people to the downtown area. More than 1,400 housing units have been in the past decade, a spokesperson for Governor Hochul said.

The NY Forward money allows Mineola to build on its previous efforts by creating more public spaces and converting vacant parcels into mixed-use buildings.
