Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- The St. Patrick's Day Parade returned to Mineola on Sunday in full glory as hundreds marched and came to celebrate, including Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman. The mile-long parade, complete with bagpipes, drums and Irish step dancers, marched from the Nassau County Court House on Old Country Road, up Mineola Boulevard and across Jericho Turnpike to Willis Avenue. Participants included the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, Mineola Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, and the Irish Cultural Society of Garden City. The parade was officially canceled last year due to COVID-19, though a smaller informal parade still proceeded. (Newsday)
- Nassau County police arrested a man early Sunday morning who they assert brought a loaded handgun into a 16 year old's birthday party at the Homewood Suites at 40 Westbury Ave. in Carle Place. Reginald Dalcime, 40, of Roswell, Georgia, reportedly got into an argument with another person at the party, went to his car and returned with a semi-automatic handgun. Witnesses helped the police locate the gun, and the suspect was arrested without incident. (Mineola Patch)
- A 27-year-old man driving a motorcycle was killed from a crash with a Toyota Camry in Hempstead Friday afternoon, according to Nassau County police. The victim was driving a 2002 Honda motorcycle southwest on Peninsula Boulevard at 4:33 p.m. when the crash occurred near Madison Avenue. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Camry driver stayed at the scene and was not injured. (Mineola Patch)
