Nassau Auto Shop Reopens Month After Massive Fire

K's Auto Repair has found a new home after its previous location burned down.

A Mineola garage has reopened a month after a massive fire destroyed the building.

K's Auto Repair burned to the ground on March 3 when a fire broke out in the building. It took hundreds of firefighters hours to get the blaze under control. The building, located at 75 Willis Ave., was right next to an LIRR junction, and the fire shut down train service for hours that night.

No one was hurt in the fire, but the guard dog of owner Kevin Thomas died.

However, a little more than a month after the fire, K's Auto Repair has reopened in a new location. Now at 263 East Jericho Turnpike, still in Mineola.

"I couldn't let this fire decide the end for me," Thomas said. "I chose when I'm done. And where else better to start up again after 40 years than Mineola?"
