🌱 Nassau Fire Marshal's Battery Warning + Police Attacked In Kohl's
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Mineola.

Hello, everybody. It's me, Joanne Gallo, your host of the Mineola Daily — back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in our community today. Enjoy...
First, today's weather:
Warmer with showers around. High: 73, low: 60.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Mineola who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Mineola Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- With deadly fires on the rise in our area, Nassau County fire officials warn about a little-known potential cause: lithium-ion batteries, used in everything today from smartphones and laptops to smoke alarms to power tools to cars. There are many safety precautions to follow with these batteries, as they contain a liquid that turns into a gas when heated and can explode. Don't charge your phone or laptop on a bed or couch, as these are flammable, and don't leave a device plugged in long after it is charged. (CBS New York)
- Nassau County police arrested a Roosevelt man on grand larceny and assault charges after he returned to the Kohl's store at 28 Jericho Turnpike in Jericho that employees said he had stolen from last month. Julius White, 35, reportedly attacked and injured two police officers and spit on one of them while they were trying to arrest him. (Patch)
- You may not have known it by the dreary weather, but Tuesday was the first official day of summer. Across Long Island, residents spent the day in many different ways, as this Newsday photo essay shows. Here in our town, Rachel and Michael Vicario of Mineola welcomed their third child at NYU Langone Hospital, while commuters gathered at sunrise at the still-under-construction Mineola LIRR station.
