Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- A Mineola resident is seeking to open a fast food Mediterranean restaurant at 99 Jericho Turnpike on the corner of Maple Place and recently presented his proposal to the Mineola Board of Trustees. Hootan Moeirzadeh owns the building, which has about 1,000 square feet and a parking lot with five spaces. The proposed restaurant would serve gyros, chicken kebobs, falafel and wraps for takeout or quick dining with five to six seats. (Mineola American)
- A Garden City man was arrested for having 26 pounds of marijuana as well as drug-laced candy in his home. While searching his home, police found candy bars infused with hallucinogenic mushrooms and THC, the main active ingredient in marijuana. (CBS New York)
- Nassau County's North Shore is experiencing increased diversity, according to statistics from the 2020 Census. The Town of North Hempstead had a 5 percent rise in total population to more than 237,000 residents, while the white non-Hispanic population declined from 64.8 percent in 2010 to 53.9 percent in 2020.
