Police Officers Who Flew Nassau Mother To NYC Honored For Saving Her Life

Four Nassau County police officers were honored by the County Legislature Monday for flying a young mother to Manhattan so she could receive a life-saving organ transplant.

In June, Dana Sepulveda, of Massapequa, walked into the Seventh Precinct building to ask the officers there for help. Sepulveda was on the list to have her liver and both kidneys replaced. She told officers that she had just received a call from her doctor saying they had a match, but that she had to make it to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan in 90 minutes — during the height of early morning rush-hour traffic.

Officers John Coupe and Michael Passarelli called the Aviation Unit and gave Sepulveda a police escort to the Bethpage airfield. She boarded a police helicopter along with Aviation Medic Greg Millwater Jr. and pilot Tomas Fabian, who flew her to New York City for her transplant surgery.

"They saved me, and they gave me a chance to be okay for my kids, and I can never repay that," Sepulveda told CBS News.

The four officers who worked together to Sepulveda's life were honored on Monday as Nassau County's Top Cops for the month of August.
