• Wannabe mad scientist sparks fire after experiment 'reacted violently' at Long Island apartment: police (nypost.com) — Mineola residents were evacuated for hours after a late-night chemical experiment in a local apartment allegedly ignited a hallway fire, damaging floors and walls. Police say they found unstable, explosive materials and lab equipment inside, which bomb technicians later detonated safely elsewhere. The tenant faces arson and reckless endangerment charges and has been released with an ankle monitor.
