Snow Day for Mineola Schools Wednesday
Both public schools and Chaminade closed due to snow storm.
Mineola public school and Chaminade students will enjoy the first snow day of the 2011 on Wednesday as the year's first major storm bears down on Long Island. Accumulations are expected to reach at least 12 inches.
Continued heavy bands of snow and high winds Wednesday morning have caused several cancellations/closings in Mineola:
- Both the and are closed today, Wednesday, Jan. 12, due to the snow storm. According to the Mineola public school website, students will make up the lost day of classes on May 27, 2011. All school activities are canceled as well. There was no indication on the Chaminade website if students would make up the lost day of classes.
- Also cancelled is the meeting of the scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Village Hall. The next meeting of the Mineola Village Board is Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
- Hofstra University's campus is closed Wednesday.
- All Wednesday Nassau Community College day classes and activities are cancelled. According to the college's website, an announcement on evening classes will be made during the day Wednesday. All classes that are cancelled Wednesday will be extended by one hour on Thursday and Friday.
- The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) urges customers to check service before heading to train stations.
