Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- A domestic attack in an East Meadow home critically injured two people and also hurt a toddler on Wednesday, according to Nassau County Police. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call on Cooper Drive at 6:38 p.m. and found a 38-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds, a 37-year-old man with a cut to his neck, and an 18-month-old girl with a cut to her arm plus a scrape and bruise on her head. All three were taken to a local hospital. Police have not released more details. (East Meadow Patch)
- Democratic candidates competing for the 4th Congressional District seat that is being vacated by Kathleen Rice (representing Mineola) participated in a Meet the Candidates night hosted by the Bellmore-Merrick Democratic Club on March 14. Four of the five candidates attended: Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe, Malverne Mayor Keith Corbett, former Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen and first-time candidate Kevin Shakil, CEO of America's Islamic Radio, based in Mineola. When asked what the biggest problem facing the district is, Shakil replied that with the uptick in crime and illegal handguns, increasing safety in our area is his top concern. (liherald.com)
- Easter is just a hop, skip and a jump around the corner, and increasingly popular Easter egg hunts will be held across Long Island. In Mineola on April 9, local Edge City Church will be hosting its 2nd annual Easter egg hunt at Mineola Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All children are welcome to search for Easter eggs and lucky golden tickets, with six big winners. At 10:30 a.m., children with special needs are invited to a sensory-friendly egg hunt. (Long Island Press)
