Survivor: South Pacific Watch – Episode 5

For those of you who are Survivor junkies, or who just want to know how our favorite local contestant did in the latest episode, Patch is keeping track of all the wheelings and dealings as Mineola teacher  tries to “Outwit, Outplay and Outlast” the 17 other contestants this season on “Survivor: South Pacific.”

*WARNING – SPOILERS FOLLOW* 

For some reason, imagery from “Lord of the Flies” keeps surrounding “Survivor” with each new passing season. The fifth episode of season 23 is no different, but before we get to pigging out, we are treated to a nighttime interlude between and our local heroine Christine.

The Redemption Island duel doesn’t happen immediately. Instead, we’re whisked off back to Upolu camp for tree mail then off to the arena. Before the gamebegins, Stacey expresses her anger with Coach – or Benjamin as he’s being referred to now by her – and about the alliance with Albert and Sophie.

Our two female contestants battle in a strange game of “Mousetrap” where metal balls travel down alternate spirals before shooting out at the bottom; drop one and you’re out. Christine come up with a couple of saves while Stacey ends up missing the third ball added to the chute, appearing to not even be paying attention at the time.

While Christine is moving on, Coach is royally peeved back at camp at being called by his birth name, but finds consolation after finding the immunity idol. We’re treated to some interludes at Savaii with Cochran acting as Ozzy and Elyse’s cabana boy before we move on to the immunity challenge.

Who’s up for some of the other white meat? It’s a repeat from the Amazon season where the tribemates’ hands are tied behind their backs and they have to bite off as much meat as they can from a pair of pigs roasting on a spit, then spitting it out into a basket. Cut to the chase and Upolu wins by two ounces, with the reward being that they can keep all the pig they collected in the basket. Yum.

Back at Savaii, the stealth alliance of Jim, Dawn and Cochran put their plans into motion to vote out Elyse and it works.
