William G. Ohme Jr., 70, High School Art Teacher

Former Mineola resident passed away on March 25, 2013.

William G. Ohme Jr. of Harrisburg, passed away on March 25, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital at the age of 70 with his wife Ann by his side.

William (“Bill”) was born to the late William and Josephine Ohme on April 8, 1939 in Mineola, Long Island, NY. He graduated from Montclair (NJ) High School in 1957 and attended Bucknell University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1961. He continued studying art history at Rutgers University.

Early in his career Bill was a high school art teacher having taught at the Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his students. He moved to Mechanicsburg with his wife Ann, where he worked for Naval Support Activity as a computer programmer until his retirement in 2002.

Bill used his creativity throughout his life creating many beautiful artistic pieces from wood carvings, drawings, French beaded flowers, miniature cross stitch rugs and quilt designs. He enjoyed collecting antiques and art work, and going to antique shows with special friends. He truly loved working in his garden which he planted and maintained while seated in a wheelchair. He was also keenly interested in animal welfare and environmental issues. He was always surrounded by his beloved pets.

He is survived by his wife Ann (nee Dean of Honesdale, PA.), his brother Robert and his wife Diane of Hillsdale, N.J., a niece Caitlyn Carey (husband Andrew) of Gainesville, FL., and a nephew Robert of Hillsdale, N.J.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
