12-Year-Old Who Shot Himself In The Head Dies

Police identified the victim of the illegal handgun incident.

YONKERS, NY — Yonkers police said the 12-year-old boy found Monday night with a gunshot wound to the head died early Thursday.

He is identified as Nyran Plummer, a resident of Nepperhan Avenue and a student in the Yonkers public schools.

Police were called to an apartment on Nepperhan Avenue at 11:56 p.m. Monday. Officers said they discovered the young boy down on the bedroom floor, bleeding. They were assisted by members of the Yonkers Fire Department and Empress Emergency Medical Services.

Their preliminary investigation concluded that the victim was home alone with a younger neighbor in separate rooms; at some point, the victim discovered or came into possession of a loaded handgun and discharged two cartridges in the bedroom, with one bullet striking a window and the other striking himself in what appeared to be a self-inflicted, potential accidental injury.

The death remains under active investigation, and detectives are continuing to work; including tracing the origin of the gun. No arrests have been effected at this time, police said.
