16-Year-Old Stabbed At Yonkers Middle High School
Two 17-year-old suspects are in custody, after a fight in a restroom ended with a stabbing, according to police.

YONKERS, NY — A 16-year-old was stabbed Friday morning inside Yonkers Middle High School.
The Yonkers Police Department was on the scene at Yonkers Middle High School following the stabbing of a student.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Friday, police responded to the scene of the violence. Investigators believe a 16-year-old victim was assaulted by two 17-year-old classmates. A dispute that originated in the area of a second-floor bathroom escalated to physical violence when the two older students punched and kicked the younger student, and then one of the older students stabbed the victim with a knife, police said.

School security quickly stopped the fight. The victim was rushed to a trauma center in stable condition and is undergoing surgery.
Both teenage suspects were placed under arrest and police later charged both 17-year-old suspects with attempted murder 2 and assault 1. Since they are both categorized as adolescent offenders under NYS Raise the Age legislation, their initial court appearance will be in the Youth Part of Criminal Court, according to police.

"We believe this is an isolated incident," Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said. "I want to assure students and parents that we continue to review all school safety protocols and make appropriate changes as needed. The safety and security of our students and staff at Yonkers Public Schools remain a top priority while providing them with a safe space to learn and thrive."
The knife was recovered, but the motive behind the latest incident of school violence remains under investigation.
Police said there were no threats to public safety after the incident and the school resumed normal operations.
