2 Teens Arrested In Shooting Death Of 16-Year-Old Found In Garage

The unconscious teen was discovered lying on the ground. First responders soon discovered he had a gunshot wound to his side.

YONKERS, NY — Police have arrested two teenagers in connection to the killing of a 16-year-old who was found unconcious in a parking garage.

At approximately 6:30 p.m on July 28, an unconscious 16-year-old from the Bronx was discovered lying on the ground in a parking garage on Highland Avenue. As first responders attempted to treat the teen, later identified as Pharrell Aguasvivas, they soon discovered that he had a gunshot wound to his side.

The Bronx resident was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, the Crime Scene Unit, and the Digital Forensics Unit responded to investigate. They said Aguasvivas had been in a physical altercation with two teenage suspects on the bottom floor of the parking garage. The fight escalated as one of the suspects fired a gun at Aguasvivas, striking him once in the upper left area of his back, causing his death.

Investigators soon identified the suspects involved in the shooting. The two teens were found, placed under arrest, and charged in the Youth Part of Westchester County Court.

"I applaud the exemplary work and dedication of our Yonkers Police Department for their investigation on this case," Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said in a statement announcing the arrrests. "I hope these arrests can be a deterrent and serve as a reminder to our young people to steer clear from the path of violence."

Because the suspects are under the age of 18, police are not releasing their identities.

A 16-year-old Yonkers resident was charged with murder and robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and hindering prosecution. He was remanded without bail.

"Their tireless efforts and meticulous investigative work are a testament to their unwavering commitment to justice. We would be remiss in not pointing out that the victim and both suspects involved are all minors; three young lives are now ruined. As a community, we need to do a better job of guiding our youth to realize the lasting repercussions of their actions.”

Officials expresssed their heartfelt condolences to Aguasvivas' family.
