MOUNT VERNON, NY — Justice has been served in an especially brutal case of domestic violence.
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced on Wednesday that 33-year-old Ajany Waite, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of several felonies for slashing his ex-girlfriend in the face with a knife and burglarizing her apartment in June of last year.
A Westchester County jury convicted Waite last week of two felony counts of first-degree assault; two felony counts of first-degree burglary; three felony counts of second-degree assault; and one misdemeanor count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Waite is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22, when he faces up to 25 years in state prison.
"The wanton violence committed by this defendant against his former partner is emblematic of the horrors experienced by domestic violence survivors throughout this county, every day," Cacace said. "I am grateful that the victim in this case received the justice due to her and to the jury for fulfilling their civic duty. We must ensure that this justice remains accessible to every person in Westchester experiencing violence at the hands of an intimate partner. And my office will work tirelessly with our law enforcement partners until that pronouncement becomes a reality."

Prosecutors say that on June 6, 2025, after seeing his ex-girlfriend at a party in the Bronx, Waite went to her Mount Vernon home and began banging on the front door. After making his way into the building and kicking open her apartment door, he then began a vicious attack on her.
The victim escaped and ran into her roommate's bedroom and shut the door, trying to keep it closed. However, Waite managed to force the door open just enough to slash her on the right side of her face with a large kitchen knife and then stabbed her in the left shoulder when she turned away from the door.
The victim's son, who was present in the home at the time, retrieved a hammer and used it to stop the assault. Waite then fled the apartment.
The victim received around 25 stitches to her face, and six stitches to her shoulder. She also sustained a broken right cheekbone and a torn ligament in her neck.
This case was investigated by the Mount Vernon Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Domestic Violence Bureau Chief Joyce Miller and Assistant DA Alexandra Kontos.
