20-Year-Old Mount Vernon Man Charged In Series Of Knife-Related Crimes
The suspect was linked to the stabbing of a 44-year-old who refused to hand over money during a knifepoint mugging.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Police are tying a man arrested after allegedly threatening a victim with a large kitchen knife to a string of similar crimes.
The Mount Vernon Police Department announced this weekend that they arrested Reynard Smith III, 20, of Mount Vernon, in connection with a series of recent violent crimes.
On Thursday, shortly before 8 a.m., Mount Vernon police received a report of a man threatening his victim with a knife near the corner of South 5th Ave. and West 3rd St. Officers who arrived on the scene soon located Smith, armed with a large kitchen knife.

He was identified as the suspect in the earlier call. Investigators eventually linked Smith to a series of other knife-related incidents, including the recent attempted robbery of a man in the area of West 5th Street, that left a Yonkers man injured.
Smith was charged in connection with four incidents, from April 26, May 1, May 2, and May 4.

Smith, who has two prior arrests for robbery, has been charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon 3rd degree, two counts of attempted assault 1st degree, two counts of attempted robbery 1st degree, two counts of attempted robbery 2nd degree, and assault 2nd degree, all felonies. In addition, he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon 4th degree and two counts of menacing 2nd degree.
Smith was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court and then remanded to the Westchester County Department of Corrections.
