Accused Of Ordering Double Gang Shooting

Prosecutors allege the man is a high ranking member of the Bloods.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Mount Vernon man who is allegedly a high-ranking gang member is on trial over a gang-ordered double shooting. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Jason Garcia was arraigned before Westchester County Court Judge Anne Minihan on a five-count indictment issued by the Westchester Grand Jury.

The 35-year-old is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class B Felony
  • 2 counts of Assault in the First Degree, class B felonies
  • 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, class C felonies

The indictment alleges that Garcia, a high-ranking member of the Bloods, ordered a double shooting on Dec. 10, 2016 outside of the Garden Bar on 5th Avenue in Mount Vernon.

One victim was shot in the chest and neck and one victim in the head. Both survived, but face life-long medical difficulties as a result of the shooting. Garcia is a high-ranking member of the Bloods Gang. The shooting was captured on surveillance video.

Garcia, also known as "G-shine" and "Mecca-J" was sent to Westchester County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 28.

The case was investigated by the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office Investigators. The case is being prosecuted by the Investigations Division Gang Bureau.

Remember that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
